FED UP WITH LIFEHOUSE PARKVIEW’S REFUSAL TO SIGN AGREED UPON CONTRACT, NURSING HOME WORKERS TO PICKET OUTSIDE OF FACILITY

Over a hundred nursing home workers and supporters take stand to demand LifeHouse Parkview meet with workers at the bargaining table and sign the contract as was agreed.

BAKERSFIELD, CA – Over a hundred nursing home workers will take a stand on Saturday and demand that their employer, LifeHouse Parkview, sign the contract that they had negotiated and agreed to in March of this year.

The inaction of LifeHouse Parkview affects over a hundred workers, including Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA’s), Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN), cooks, and laundry workers. These workers won a right to union representation in 2010 and were finally able to reach a contractual agreement six years later – March of 2016. The workers and the employer had agreed to finalize and sign the contract on March 30, 2017. However, at the end of last month, LifeHouse Parkview informed SEIU Local 2015, the union representing the workers, that they would not uphold the agreement as they decided to instead sell the building.

“Enough is enough!” said Christina White, nursing home worker at LifeHouse Parkview. “We have done everything in our hands to meet the demands of LifeHouse Parkview and now they decide to turn their backs on us and our agreement. We demand that they honor agreement to meet with workers at the bargaining table. It is not only fair but the right thing to do.”

According to an article by the Sacramento Bee, both the care provider turnover at LifeHouse’s California facilities and the number of long-term residents in moderate to severe pain was nearly double the statewide average.

Over one hundred nursing home workers and supporters will be taking a stand on Saturday to demand LifeHouse meet with workers at the bargaining table and sign the contract as was agreed.
