SEIU 2015 Celebrates PRIDE, Year-Round
SAN FRANCISCO—As festivities kick off for the closing of PRIDE month across the city, SEIU 2015 President April Verrett issues the following remarks:
“The members of SEIU 2015 are proud to stand with our LGBTIQ sisters, brothers, and family to celebrate the 50th anniversary of PRIDE month, but we don’t stop on June 30.
“As the most diverse local union in California, we continue our fight every day for love, recognition, and acceptance on the job, in our homes, and in our communities. We are extremely proud of the progress we have made as a country, however there remains a gross assumption that LGBTIQ people face less discrimination.
“The truth is LGBTIQ people still do not have federal non-discrimination protections in the workplace, when renting or buying a home, in public accommodations, or when applying for loans and credit. That’s why Congress must pass The Equality Act, it’s the only way we can guarantee these protections for all people.
“Let’s pass The Equality Act before the 51st anniversary of PRIDE.”
