55-year-old Leroy Kelsey starts his day at 4:00 a.m. every morning. On this morning he is making the short walk from home to work for his 5 a.m. – 2 p.m. shift at a nursing home facility in Watts, CA where he has been a cook for over 20 years. Leroy values his job because the nursing home residents rely on him to stay happy and healthy. As Leroy has gained more knowledge about workplace rights, he feels empowered when standing up for a life of dignity and respect for nursing home residents and his colleagues.

Open Letter from SEIU Local 2015 President, Laphonza Butler

Wednesday, July 4th, 2018

Dear SEIU Local 2015 Sisters and Brothers:

Today, this week, this month, has seemed so hard…hard for our members, hard for our families, hard for our communities, and hard for our morals and values as human beings. Monday, April 2nd, 2018

Cesar Chavez fought for the basic recognition and dignity of farm workers across California, of which he was one, and by doing so permanently changed our state for the better.  He showed us that with hard work, sacrifice and determination, building a more just society is possible. The echoes of the farm worker chants of si se puede that he led, still reverberate across California today.

Our Stories: Deborah Hilder – Provider Sacramento County

Wednesday, March 21st, 2018

As I reached out to give her my money she pulled out a wrench and started striking me on my head and stomach. I was left bleeding, bruised and unsure if my baby was still alive.
