What is the SEIU Local 2015 – 2023 Convention?

Our 2023 Convention will bring together 1,500 SEIU Local 2015 leaders and activists from across California. It will be a powerful and engaging event where we reflect and celebrate our individual and collective accomplishments, discuss the work we still have left to do, and build a unified vision to bring back to our facilities and communities. 

When is the Convention, where will it be held, and how will I get there?

The SEIU Local 2015 – 2023 Convention will be held November 6 & 7, 2023 in Anaheim, California. If you are selected as a delegate or guest, SEIU Local 2015 will provide transportation for you to attend.

How can I apply?

You can apply by filling out the paper application and giving it to your Organizer or Regional Admin, or by filling out an online application available on our website at www.seiu2015.org/2023-convention-delegate-application/

What are the eligibility requirements?

In order to attend the SEIU 2015 Convention ALL applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: 

  1. Share Local 2015’s Vision and Values. Share the vision of the Local and demonstrate the core values; hold themselves and others accountable to the mission, vision, values and goals of the local. 
  2. Submit a complete Delegate Application by August 31, 2023, including the endorsement from at least 3 card-signing members from their Region, and commit to attend the convention.
  3. Be a member of Local 2015 and currently working as a caregiver. Must have submitted a membership form by August 31st 2023. Contributing to the Caregivers Action Fund (CAF) at $10+ is strongly suggested. 
  4. Complete the volunteer hour requirements by August 31, 2023. Demonstrate your commitment to building your union! List of qualifying activities below.
    1. IHSS homecare workers – minimum 4 volunteer hours 
    2. Private Sector (Nursing Home, Private Agency workers, etc) – minimum 2 volunteer hours

What about Associate and Displaced members, or workers who have not yet won their first contract? 

In order to attend the SEIU 2015 Convention these applicants must meet the following requirements:  

  1. Share Local 2015’s Vision and Values. Share the vision of the Local and demonstrate the core values; hold themselves and others accountable to the mission, vision, values and goals of the local. 
  2. Submit a complete Delegate Application by August 31, 2023, including the endorsement from at least 3 co-workers or card-signing members from their Region, and commit to attend the convention. 
  3. Complete the volunteer hour requirements by August 31, 2023. Applicants must complete at least 2 volunteer hours in union building activities. List of qualifying activities below.

What activities qualify for the volunteer requirement?

Qualifying volunteer activities include any unpaid volunteer activities that help advance the Justice for All priorities and build the union. 

Excluded activities for requirement of volunteer hours for the 2023 Convention are:

  1. Attendance at meetings and events (ex. chapter meetings, coffees, regional meetings, listening tour, orientation, TTH, calls, etc.)
  2. Attendance at basic trainings (ex. timesheet trainings, Electronic timesheet trainings, EVV trainings, etc.) 
  3. Activity done on paid time (ex. internships, lost-time, etc)

What happens if I miss the August 31st deadline to apply?

Anyone who meets the other criteria but either signs a membership card or submits an application after the deadline will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

What if I need to bring my consumer?

Consumer attendance will be determined based on the availability of rooms and space. To make sure there is a positive experience for all attendees, we have the following consumer attendance criteria:

  • The consumer cannot be left at home and member couldn’t find required coverage for care needs.
  • Member agrees that the attendance of her/his consumer should not impact the ability for them or other members to fully participate in the meeting.
  • Member has consistently demonstrated the execution of their leadership responsibilities in their region.
  • Member is responsible for paying for consumer’s accommodation. The union will cover bus transportation and all meals for consumers.
