In May and June, SEIU Local 2015 members spoke out to protect long-term care in California’s 2025-2026 state budget—and our legislators heard us! Thousands of care workers from across the state took action to beat back several proposed cuts to essential programs like In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) and Medi-Cal.
Our activism included:
- 20,000 calls to the Assembly Speaker, Senate President Pro Tem, the Assembly and Senate Budget Committee Chairs, and the Governor.
- 1,800 members marching on the Capitol on June 4 to rally against budget cuts and call upon state leaders to fund statewide collective bargaining for IHSS workers.
- Over 100 members attending four Lobby Days to speak directly to legislators and their staff about the harm of budget cuts.
Because of our collective power, California legislators:
- Rejected 50 hour work week cap for IHSS workers!
- Rejected $2,000 asset limit for Medi-Cal recipients!
- Rejected ending IHSS for undocumented Californians!
