House Members Have One Last Chance to Save Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Healthcare for Millions of Californians by Voting NO on Budget Reconciliation
SACRAMENTO, CA – SEIU California responded to U.S. Senate Republicans’ vote for a budget bill that would terminate healthcare for 12 million Americans and rip food away from hungry children, all to deliver massive tax cuts to Trump’s billionaire buddies:
Arnulfo De La Cruz, President of SEIU Local 2015 and Executive Board Member of SEIU California, said:
“Republicans in the U.S. Senate today voted for the biggest cut to healthcare and nutrition in our nation’s history in order to deliver on Trump’s campaign promises of tax cuts for the mega-rich. Wrapped in lies about protecting healthcare for the most deserving, Trump’s bill will leave millions of seniors, veterans, children, people with disabilities, cancer patients, and others suffering without access to life-saving care as his friends at Mar-a-Lago shop for bigger yachts and take trips to space.
“Trump insists on signing these devastating healthcare cuts into law by the 4th of July, but ripping healthcare from millions of Americans is profoundly unpatriotic. This bill hurts Americans. It will force hospital and clinic closures, create longer ER wait times, trigger massive layoffs of healthcare workers, increase family bankruptcies from paying for healthcare, and result in thousands upon thousands of unnecessary deaths every year.
“For Republican house members who promised to protect Medi-Cal for vulnerable children, seniors, people with disabilities and hard-working constituents, the choice is now clearer than ever. Stand by your word and protect your constituents’ lives by voting no on the Senate version of the budget bill, or be accountable for the devastating consequences in your district.
“Trump and Republicans know that cutting Medicaid for seniors in nursing homes and taking food away from poor kids is wildly unpopular. They’ve ignored warnings from their own advisors that this bill will haunt them in the midterms, and continue to feed the public shameless lies about what’s in this bill. Healthcare workers, in-home caregivers, and working people across California see through those lies and will spend every day from now until November 2026 ensuring voters know who stood up for us, and who cared more about sending Jeff Bezos a big wedding present paid for with working Americans’ lives.”
