In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) is a social service that allows people who need long-term care to receive it in the comfort and safety of their own homes. In Trinity County, approximately 200 IHSS workers provide long-term care services—including household work, personal care services, and paramedical services—to more than 250 older adults and people with disabilities.
Without home care workers, our neighbors who receive services through IHSS would lose access to essential long-term care. Despite their vital role in Trinity’s long-term care system, IHSS workers earn just $17.85 an hour—far below what’s needed to cover household expenses.
Trinity IHSS workers are joining together to secure a strong contract that increases wages, improves benefits, and guarantees equitable access to long-term care for all who need it in our community.
Campaign Update: November 2025
On October 21, 2025, Trinity IHSS workers and allies spoke out at the Board of Supervisors meeting to urge them to raise wages for IHSS workers. At the same time, across the state, countless SEIU 2015 members took action in their communities to send a powerful message across the state: valuing family starts with valuing caregivers!
Listen to SEIU 2015 members, Matthew and Susan, address Trinity Supervisors:
Matthew and Susan’s compelling testimonies were underscored by Dennis, a Trinity IHSS recipient, who spoke about the importance of the program in his life.
As we continue pushing Trinity Supervisors to do the right thing by funding home care, we need IHSS workers across the county to stand up and speak out—for yourselves, your clients, and your neighbors.
