The candidates, including Los Angeles mayoral candidates, will attend in person, with SEIU 2015 member leaders and officers as moderators. SEIU 2015 members will attend as a Zoom audience and participate in the endorsement votes based on their voting districts.

WHAT:
SEIU Local 2015 will lead a two-day candidate town hall event to complete their endorsement process and provide members with insight to the candidates’ platforms and support of key issues. Candidate statements will be made at the February 8th and 9th town halls, culminating in a vote from the SEIU 2015 members attending over Zoom. The final announcement of the endorsements will be made at the SEIU 2015 Meet Our Candidates event on February 11th via Facebook Live.

SEIU 2015 members—mostly women, mostly women of color—were and continue to be heroes on the frontlines of the pandemic. They have organized tirelessly for safe care, fair working conditions, and adequate pay, including a $20 an hour wage floor, amidst the stress and trauma of COVID-19. Despite their “hero” status, care workers do not receive the pay or benefits that adequately reflect the essential and valuable nature of the job, leading to a staffing shortage with people quitting at alarming rates. Union members look forward to hearing candidates’ stances on issues related to worker and consumer safety, worker rights, and fair wages—urgent changes necessary to attract workers and fix what’s broken in the industry.

Media interview opportunities are available on site with SEIU Local 2015 representatives, including SEIU 2015 President April Verrett.
