San Francisco home care providers say they aren’t breathing easily after the state’s In-Home Supportive Services program was spared from significant budget cuts at the 11th hour this summer.

California’s final budget, which Gov. Gavin Newsom signed June 27, ultimately did not cut funding for home care for Californians who are aging, disabled or blind and need additional help, nor did it eliminate such services for state residents without legal authorization to live in the U.S.

Even so, local providers say other state and federal budget cuts and existing practices within the program pose ongoing risks to them and their clients.
