Board of Supervisors

On September 2, 2025 – Inyo County care providers gathered at the county’s Board of Supervisors to demand investments in home care after nearly two years without a new contract that guarantees livable wages and quality healthcare. This was one of the biggest turnouts yet, with members showing up in full force to make their voices heard.

“The demand for care providers continues to grow, but with low wages it’s not enough to retain care workers.” said Gina Martinez, a Inyo County IHSS caregiver. “This Board needs to come to the table in good faith and give us a counter-proposal. We have been without a contract for nearly two years.”

Inyo caregivers spoke about the meaning of Labor Day, acknowledging the generations of workers who fought for fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect and dignity on the job. They reminded the Board that this same fight is still very real today. During public comment, Inyo County caregivers shared how poverty wages are pushing caregivers to leave the profession for better-paying jobs, which creates a dangerous shortage of providers for older adults and people with disabilities.

Inyo caregivers raised concerns over the threats to Medicaid, pointing out that cuts would put even more strain on rural hospitals and the fragile care system. The Future of Care in Inyo County depends on securing a strong contract that truly invests in care providers and they vowed to continue rallying until that future becomes a reality. Stay tuned for more as Inyo care heroes continue to push for a new contract.
