Following back-to-back actions at three facilities, workers are calling on owner Rockport/Shlomo Rechnitz to invest in the workforce residents depend on

Southern Calif. – Nursing home workers at Alta Vista Healthcare & Wellness Center, represented by SEIU Local 2015, picketed outside their facilities on separate days over the past week, calling on owner Rockport/Shlomo Rechnitz (RSR) to address chronic understaffing and invest in the wages and working conditions needed to provide safe, dignified care. This comes a week after workers held actions at other RSR facilities in the region: Anaheim Point Healthcare & Wellness Centre and Orange Healthcare & Wellness Centre.

Workers at these facilities are pressing the company to address staffing and working conditions. They have spent months negotiating in good faith and have made progress at the bargaining table, but key issues remain unresolved. Thursday’s picket was a another public call for agreements that reflects the needs of both caregivers and residents.

These three facilities are owned by Rockport / Shlomo Rechnitz, the third-largest nursing home operator in California, operating more than 70 facilities statewide. SEIU 2015 represents nursing home workers at 27 of these facilities. Safe staffing is the foundation of quality care, and continued investment is essential to recruiting and retaining the caregivers residents depend on every day.

“Every time someone quits, it’s not just a name on a schedule — it’s a resident who has to relearn how to trust a stranger with their care. We lose people because the pay and the workload don’t add up to a job you can build a life on. We need a livable wage and an employer who actually cares about the people doing this work,” said Arcelia Buenrostro, RNA at Alta Vista Healthcare & Wellness Center.

“We’re fighting to improve conditions at this facility and make sure we can continue providing the essential care that our residents depend on,” said Clementina Norfziger, CNA at Orange Healthcare & Wellness Centre.

“Workers are out here today because quality care starts with quality jobs. They need adequate staffing on every shift, adequate supplies and equipment, opportunities for continued training, and wages and benefits that allow them to support their families,” said Marcus Mc Rae, SEIU 2015 Executive Vice President.

SEIU 2015 members across Rockport / Shlomo Rechnitz facilities say they will continue fighting for fair contracts that address staffing, strengthen working conditions, and support the quality care residents deserve.
