What is Prop. 3?
Prop. 3 permanently makes the temporary tax on the top 2% of the highest paid people in the state. It is on the November 3rd Ballot.
These taxes have brought in $120 billion since 2012, when SEIU members and teachers joined forces to pass Prop. 30 (which we extended again in 2016). These funds have allowed California’s schools to invest in more teachers and school workers, lunch for all schoolchildren, and other critical services.
Isn’t California too expensive for working people already?
Prop. 3 doesn’t raise taxes by a single penny for anyone. Prop. 3 simply continues current tax levels on the wealthiest Californians, which are set to expire in 2030, saving our schools from $15 billion in cuts every year.
What does Prop. 3 fund?
Prop 3 funds California schools, community colleges, and public health.
What will happen to our schools if Prop. 3 doesn’t pass?
If Prop 3 doesn’t pass, schools will have to cut approximately $15 billion every single year. Class sizes will increase, maintenance and cleaning staff will be laid off, and critical services like mental health counseling and school lunch programs will be on the chopping block.

Won’t rich people leave the state of California if they have to pay higher taxes?
Prop. 3 doesn’t increase taxes by a penny for anyone, including the wealthy Californians who stayed here when this tax was first passed in 2012. Since then, thanks to Trump and his MAGA Billionaire Donors, the highest earners in the state have actually received a massive tax cut from the federal government, and they are richer than ever.
Who supports Prop 3?
The California Teachers Association, California Democratic Party, Planned Parenthood California Action, California Professional Firefighters, California Federation of Labor Unions and SEIU CA all support Prop 3.
Who opposes Prop. 3?
The efforts to defeat Prop. 3 are led by Reform California, a group led by MAGA politician Carl DeMaio and funded by anti-union, pro-Trump wealthy donors, and the California Taxpayers Association, which is primarily funded by giant global corporations.
