WHEN:
Monday, October 23rd, 8:00 am PT

WHERE:
Stanley Mosk Courthouse (Grand Ave side)
110 N Grand Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90012

WHAT:
Members of SEIU Local 2015, the nation’s largest long-term care union and California’s largest labor union representing nearly 450,000 nursing home workers and home care providers, are holding a courthouse rally in support of  the United to House Los Angeles (ULA) measure. Measure ULA, also known as the “mansion tax,” is funding rental assistance, income support for seniors, and the creation of new affordable housing to reduce homelessness in Los Angeles and protect those in danger of experiencing homelessness.

WHY:
The courts will hear Motions for Judgment on the Pleadings in the litigation challenging ULA. Angelenos passed Measure ULA through the democratic process in November 2022 and the measure is helping keep people housed in Los Angeles, and will soon build new affordable housing to reduce homelessness. Unfortunately, wealthy corporate interests are trying to stop progress in Los Angeles and interfere with the vote of the people, who overwhelmingly supported Measure ULA to protect the supply of existing affordable housing in our city, while simultaneously creating new affordable housing in our communities to ensure that working families can live where they work. SEIU Local 2015 supports Measure ULA, as many members struggle to pay high rents, and many of the seniors that SEIU 2015 members care for are themselves low-income and housing insecurity.

WHO:
The United to House LA coalition, including members of SEIU 2015; Southern California Association of Nonprofit Housing (SCANPH); Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance (KIWA); Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE); LA County Federation of Labor; Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council; IBEW Local 11; UNITE HERE Local 11; Move LA; TRUST South LA; LA Family Housing; United Teachers Los Angeles; Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE); and LA Community Action Network (LA CAN)
