It is with deep sadness and profound respect that we mourn the passing of our SEIU sister, Luisa Blue—trailblazer, visionary, and beloved leader in our labor family.
Luisa was more than a union leader. She was a force for justice whose life’s work broke barriers and lifted voices that for too long had gone unheard. As one of the highest-ranking Asian American Pacific Islander leaders in the labor movement, Luisa paved the way for so many of us, showing what is possible when courage, conviction, and compassion come together in service of working people.
Her leadership within SEIU, from her early days as a nurse and founding member of the SEIU Nurse Alliance to her role as Executive Vice President on the SEIU International Executive Board, was always rooted in love—for workers, for community, and in the belief that care work is essential work. She was instrumental in building a more inclusive movement—fighting for immigrant rights, worker rights, and a seat at the table for caregivers and women of color across the country.
At SEIU Local 2015, we stand on her shoulders. Her impact lives on in our members, in the victories we continue to win, and in the movement she helped shape.
Our hearts are with Luisa’s family, friends, and all who had the honor of walking alongside her. Her legacy will continue to guide us in our work and will always be reflected in our victories.
¡Luisa Blue, Presente! Rest in power, sister.
