SEIU Local 2015 stands in solidarity with the people of Iran and Iranian-Americans as they continue a noble fight for justice: standing for democracy in their homeland, freedom for women, religious freedoms — and standing against nearly 50 years of authoritarianism. We similarly condemn authoritarianism in the United States: the Trump Administration’s war on Iran is taking place without an act of Congress. It has already taken more than a thousand innocent lives and threatens to create yet another humanitarian crisis in the Middle East.
As a union of more than 500,000 long-term care workers across California, many of whom are immigrants and refugees, we know that global conflict is personal, not abstract.
War reaches into our homes, our workplaces, and our communities. It harms caregivers, elders, and children who simply want to live in safety and dignity. It diverts resources from care and community well-being toward violence and destruction.
As we are in the midst of the holy month of Ramadan, a time of reflection, compassion, and peace, we reaffirm that all working people deserve the chance to live without the threat of violence. Our members care for elders and people with disabilities. They need stability and care to thrive, not chaos and war.
We stand with workers in Iran and across the world to demand an end to hostilities and the restoration of diplomacy. We will continue to stand united, as caregivers, as immigrants, as people of faith, and as workers, to protect our communities and advance peace and dignity for working people everywhere.
